More Training Programs? πŸ•ΈπŸ•ΈπŸŽƒπŸ•ΈπŸ•Έ

Today’s post is going to focus on an interesting topic… DO we need more training programs/bootcamps for Cyber Security?

You might be thinking I’m crazy for writing this seeing as I’m working on one of my own haha.

The goal of today’s post is to focus on the problem with today’s Cyber Security training programs and address what needs to happen in order to FIX them.

All of which I’m saying could also apply to Colleges/Universities.

πŸŽƒ More Training Programs?

Their Flaw πŸ•ΈπŸ•ΈπŸŽƒπŸ•ΈπŸ•Έ

For starters, the biggest flaw with most Cyber Security training programs is….. THEY DO NOT GUARANTEE YOU A JOB!

Most training programs like bootcamps and universities/colleges for example, sell on the fact they β€œguarantee you a job”, hence the testimonies they usually have in order to convince you to join their program.

The problem with most programs today, and why many are skeptical of them, reasonably so, is because they take your money and overall waste your time as most people have admitted they didn't’ land a role after completing said program.

Personally for me I’m ok with a training program NOT doing that. Just be upfront about it. Mine will be like that which I’ve made CRYSTAL CLEAR from the beginning!

The Fix Part 1 πŸ•ΈπŸ•ΈπŸŽƒπŸ•ΈπŸ•Έ

Training programs should be required to give sample courses/instruction that allow you to try their product BEFORE you buy into it! And by required, I mean as a LEGAL form of practice where there are rules and guidelines to follow should you operate said program.

At the very least, if it’s not something that can be legally done, it should be ethically done, where one should also follow in suit and NOT join anything that hasn’t given sampled course work to them.

A lot of programs are crafty and will expect up front payment first without ever giving you a taste of the product.

The Fix Part 2 πŸ•ΈπŸ•ΈπŸŽƒπŸ•ΈπŸ•Έ

Combine recruitment agencies with training programs.

Has anyone ever thought of I dunno… having training programs that link you with recruitment that HIRES you?

Not only will this boost credibility for those looking to start genuine programs, but it’ll also allow people to jump right into the field should they graduate successfully from the program, GUARANTEEING them a job.

Do We Need them? πŸ•ΈπŸ•ΈπŸŽƒπŸ•ΈπŸ•Έ

Yes, like all things when it comes to educational resources, we do in fact need them. If we’re looking to bring more people into Cyber to defend our digital landscape, the knowledge and resources need to be there.

What we need to do is focus on the ones that are practical like HackTheBox and TCM Security for example, one of which will be eventually providing paid internships (TCM) to folks that hold their certs in the long run.

How To Pick one? πŸ•ΈπŸ•ΈπŸŽƒπŸ•ΈπŸ•Έ

Like I’ve mentioned, make sure they give out FREE samples! If they refuse to do so, simply don’t invest in it.

Also, look for SOLID reviews on the program. If the odds are you can’t find any, OR, there aren’t any negative ones PERIOD, then that might be an indicator of a red flag for you.

Overall look for free stuff first and see your options BEFORE you buy!
